Way before he started on this path, Marcelo was born and raised in the fertile lands of Central Brasil absorbing the unadulterated passion and vibrancy of his culture.  He brought with him to the United States a fresh palate, family-instilled customs, and an old world work ethic.  As he grew up and experienced life, he thought his interests would lead him down the path of a chef, but then, he discovered his love of spirits and beer.

A culinary and hospitality guru since 1997 and internationally award-winning mixologist, Marcelo nurtured his passion and developed his skills at one of Austin's top restaurants.  His proficiency skyrocketed when he was recognized in a multi-state company-wide cocktail competition by landing three of his creative cocktails in the Top 10 and winning the overall Grand Prize.  This was the ultimate factor that drove him to recognize his talent and calling.  In 2009, he put his passion into action and founded Lucky 13 Cocktail Co.  Through Lucky 13, he has been able to fine-tune his skill and gain notoriety for his creative, unique, and delicious flavors.  While at Peche, Austin's nationally recognized pre-prohibition bar, he was exposed to the art of being a barman and was able to create with unique and rare spirits.  And he is honored to be crowned the 2011 Master of the Manhattan for Esquire Magazine and 2012 Google Fan Favorite for the Official Drink of Austin.

Additionally, through his consulting company, CIRCA Craft Consulting, he has been able to gain in depth knowledge into the workings of the distillation, manufacturing, and distribution of spirits.  It was through this journey of intensive teaching and speaking engagements that he realized his desire for sharing his passion.  This journey created for him the unique advantage of having, what we like to call, the trifecta:  educator, entertainer, creator.​  Look for him as he guest spots at bars in Austin.  Come see him in his latest adventure as he invigorates and renews bar programs for Chattanooga.
